1. When you want to talk about dark colours, you can use the word 深 (shēn) . For example, dark blue is 深藍色 (shēn lɑ́n sè). |

2. When you want to talk about light colours, you can use the word 淺 (qiɑ̌n) . For example, light blue is 淺藍色 (qiɑ̌n lɑ́n sè). |
3. When you want to express something with colour, you have to use the word 的 in Chinese. For example, a red car is 一輛紅色的車 (yī liɑ̀ng hóng sè de chē). The word "的" must be put between the colour and the noun to form a grammatically correct noun phrase. |
